Warming up for the Academy Awards on Sunday, celebrities started partying at Global Green’s pre-Oscarbash in Hollywood last Thursday, February 19, to bene?t its Green Schools Initiative. The 6th annual event was co-hosted by Penelope Cruz, Marisa Tomei, Rosario Dawson, Orlando Bloom, and others. The stars strolled along a non-toxic green carpet outside the Avalon Hollywood for the fundraiser and concert by SherylCrow and Gavin Rossdale. Among the stellar guests joining Global Green USA’s CEO Matt Peterson were James Cromwell, Heather Graham, Dominic Monaghan, Kate Bosworth, Neil Patrick Harris, Rosie Perez, and Maria Menounos.
Monaghan appears in the upcoming X-Men movie, Wolverine (starring Oscar host, Hugh Jackman), which participated in New Zealand's "Green Screen Initiative" to reduce ?lm industry waste. He was joined by The 11th Hour producer Leila Conners Petersen who he’s partnering with on a documentary about endangeredanimals. “We’re all here for the environment. Besides doing generic things, like driving a hybrid andrecycling, I compost and plan to build a beehive. There’s a groundswell now and it’s great to talk aboutthings that are important, like green schools.”
Everyone offered a thumbs-up about the festivities. Gavin Rossdale praised the “fantastic cause,” doing his part for green schools, though admitted his toddlers with Gwen Stefani, Kingston and Zuma, are a few yearsfrom classes. Tickets for the performances were $125 or $250 with drinks plus an eco-friendly LIV GRN gift bag, created with Maria Menounos of Access Hollywood and Planet Green’s Hollywood Green, who wore asustainable dress made of 100 percent milk ?ber by designer Mr. Larkin, showing the tag to prove it.
Gearing up for Hollywood's biggest night, the stars assembled for the 6th annual Global Green USA pre-Oscar party. Leonardo DiCaprio, Rosario Dawson and Kate Walsh ?ocked to L.A. hot spot Avalon, where they rocked out to live performances by Sheryl Crow and Gavin Rossdale. "We're not just a tree-hugging group, we're the wave of the future," declared Global Green supporter Kate Bosworth (in a Loewe dress andjewelry by Chanel). "Now it's a central movement that's meant to inspire future generations."
Gavin Rossdale and Sheryl CrowAfter taking turns for their own solo sets, Gavin Rossdale and Sheryl Crow teamed up to perform the Beatles'"Hide Your Love Away." The one-night-only concert raised funds for the Green Schools program in New Orleans, with an emphasis on improving student health and performance, creating green jobs, and solvingclimate problems. "I like green—I like trees, I love dollar bills!" exclaimed Crow, encouraging the audience to open their wallets and give generously.
Alison Brie "I think it's great that so many celebrities come out for such a good cause," said Mad Men's Alison Brie (in BCBG Max Azria) who stopped by the event after arriving home from New York Fashion Week. While Brie wanted to lend her voice to the cause, she also had an ulterior motive for showing up. "I am such a fan ofGavin Rossdale," she admitted. "He's so cute!"
